Revisiting some images from a couple of years ago. (Awaiting more new stuff to arrive from the lab, and in keeping with this week’s photo challenge theme.)
I have to admit, Hoover Dam is really kind of beautiful, in that Art Deco Works Projects way (although it wasn’t a WPA project).
You suddenly get what the old farts used to go on about all those years ago over holiday dinners: our ingenuity, our hardworking stick-to-it-ive-ness, masterpieces like this built during the years of stale bread. You don’t think about the negative environmental impact when you’re standing on it, nor the workers who lost their lives. You remember that we first-worlders had moments when we were proud of ourselves.
Upon seeing it, we immediately starting humming this, naturally:
Who can resist a little Raymond Scott?
