  1. Do you think they’re markers for graves where the gravestones have been deliberately removed because they are broken/dangerous. I know a lot of parishes do that as a matter of course now, it also helps with maintenance as the mower can just go straight over the top.

    • Huh. I hadn’t heard of that, although there’s no reason we wouldn’t do it in the U.S. as well. That could certainly be the case with the Wileys’ & with Bridges, since their markers are so basic. Oakes & Boyce are in raised family plots and the stones have more information on them, so I don’t know if those would have been changed.
