Your standard American Independence Day head gear, when the secret oddballs among us can be loud for a day. (Although I think they gave my Ektar film a headache…)
Interesting how we seem to forego the more era-appropriate, ‘though possibly slave-ownery, tricorne or flat straw hat in favor of the less ambiguous Lincoln-style stovepipe, or the really-only-true-for-some-of-us cowboy hat.
I miss hats. In my youthful heyday I used to wear them all the time; even now I find one of the best parts of winter is that I get to decorate my head with felted-wool cloches and tweed fedoras. I like seeing people in hats, and it’s kind of a shame we only wear ’em these days to be silly. Except for veterans. And baseball caps, about which I am of two minds (Jeez, is that the best you can do?/Hey, at least it’s a hat!).
Marine biologists, however, are always allowed to wear tinfoil jellyfish.
